Thanksgiving Bags Giveaway

On Sunday, November 22, 2020, the University Heights SDA Church Women’s Ministry Department in collaboration with the Community Services Department, under the leadership of Jean Brown, distributed approximately 150 Thanksgiving Bags to individuals and families residing in the Somerset, New Jersey community.  Each bag was complete with everything an individual or family would need to make a healthy Thanksgiving meal for a family of 4 -6 persons.

Following strict pandemic safety measures and social distancing, everyone was instructed to “stay in your car, open the trunk and we will put the food in the trunk”.

One male recipient gratefully exclaimed “I thank you, I thank the church for coming to our aid at this time.  This will go a long way.”  He continued, “One hand washes the other, I can come and cut the lawn for you.”

When the food was all gone, the Women’s Ministry director, Jean Brown said, “I am grateful to God for allowing us to be a part of the solution at a time when so many people are hurting and are experiencing food insecurities.  Extremely glad that we could provide food items for so many".  "Thanks to our donors," she concluded.
